What we offer

Each school in NSW offers something slightly different depending on the community. Here's what we offer for you.

Megalong Public School

Our school enjoys a beautiful rural setting in Megalong Valley. Our caring and inclusive setting provides excellence in education for Literacy and Numeracy; providing individual attention to each child. We utilise our beautiful bush setting and spacious playground with outdoor classrooms and programs, extending students in Film Literacy, Environmental Science and Creative Arts.

Megalong Public School provides a unique learning environment. Our smaller numbers give us the ability to provide quality small group instruction, giving our students ample teacher attention. This means that our students are given all the support they need to excel and reach their full potential. We understand that every student is different and we aim to build their self confidence and resilience to embrace the challenges of the future. Our students finish their schooling with capacity, insight and excellence in education.

Some of the schools recent achievements include:

  • NSW State Grand Champion Junior Landcare Team 2019
  • Film by the Eucalypts finalist 2018, 2019
  • State finalist Film by Invitation Bryan Brown Awards
  • Blue Shorts Film Festival Junior Team Documentary Award

Sustainability Goals

We live in exciting times and now more than ever we need our students, local community members and organisations to come together and embrace the challenge of the future. We regularly engage with community groups to work towards a more sustainable future.

Our school is moving forward to meet sustainability targets in many aspects of our learning and teaching.

  • Aiming to be a zero waste school in 2020
  • Proposed solar panels will make the school carbon neutral
  • Participants in the Blue Mountains Backyards Action Plan
  • Our own Landcare group - Guulong Landcare

Excursions and Networking

We offer students many opportunities that are extended by networking with other small schools and the Blue Mountains School Network. These opportunities include a diverse range of curriculum events. Over the past few years these have included; Upper Blue Mountains Dance Festival, Public speaking and debating, Athletics, Cross Country, Sports Gala Days, Music Aviva, NSW Opera performances, Author visits, Rhododendron Parade, Film By the Eucalypts and the Blue Shorts Film Festival.

Our school regularly heads off on many exciting excursions. Last year we travelled to Broken Hill to attend the NSW State Landcare Awards. Other recent excursions include: Bathurst Goldfields, Shen Yun Ballet, Landcare Biodiversity camp, Regional and State Landcare Awards, Sydney, Canberra, Blue Mountains Radio station and Brewongle Camp.

Uniforms

When students wear a school uniform, they feel included in our school community.

Students, teachers, parents and carers, as well as members of our local community helped develop our school uniform to make sure it:

  • meets the requirements of occupational health and safety, anti-discrimination and equal opportunity legislation

  • includes items that are affordable, comfortable and made from easy-care and easy-wear fabrics

  • is appropriate for the full range of school activities

  • is suitable for all body shapes.
